Video lessons and review, Zoom classes and outdoor instruction are all ways we’ve kept our dancers moving over the summer. As we head back into classes this September, there are more changes coming for Bluegrass Ceili Academy and we’re excited to share them with you. Focusing on fundamentals This fall, the classes for both our youth and adult dancers at our Lexington Irish dance school will focus on the fundamentals of Irish step dancing. Irish dancing in Lexington, and around the world, has changed in the post-COVID 19 world and Bluegrass Ceili Academy is adapting to change with it. We'd like to share with you some of the steps we're taking. While hand sanitizer was a staple in our classrooms before March -- with all the hand-holding our choreography requires, it kept the flu and other bugs away -- it's now just one of multiple health precautions we have to take. Masks, social distancing, sanitizer and hand-washing are all things we're asking our dancers to do. Our classes -- for both children and adults -- focus on learning and mastering the basics of Irish dancing -- we'll have three classes, plus an extra teams class to choose from this fall. Beginning Irish Dance (Mondays, 5:30-6:15 p.m.) - This class is for students ages 6+ who have never taken an Irish dance class or those who aren't quite ready for our regular youth class. Bluegrass Ceili Academy receives 2019 LexArts community arts grant

Lexington's community-based Irish dance school, Bluegrass Ceili Academy, has again been awarded a community arts development grant by LexArts. The grant will provide scholarships to dancers for the 2019-2020 class year. "It's an absolute honor for us to be supported by LexArts, through its Fund for the Arts, which is funded in part by the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government," said Academy director Megan Moloney. "As a community-based program, our partners -- including LexArts and Lexington Parks and Recreation -- make what we do possible." "With this grant, we'll be able make Irish dance an option for more students in our community, including both children and adults," Moloney said.
