Irish dancing for children, adults

The Bluegrass Ceili Academy offers Irish dance classes in Lexington through Artworks at the Carver School, a community cultural arts facility operated by Lexington Parks & Recreation. All classes are taught by a certified instructor.
Through its Kiddie Kapers & Company Dance Program, Bluegrass Ceili Academy teaches both children and adults. Classes focus on group choreography — known as ceili dancing — for fun, for performance and for competition.
Registration for the 2026-2027 class year opens Aug. 16. Students who aren’t already registered can also do so after Aug. 19 by calling Artworks at 859-425-2057.
Class Schedule
| Beginner Irish Dance | Wednesdays, 5:30-6:15 p.m | Artworks at the Carver School | This class is for beginner youth students with no previous Irish dance experience. Class will cover fundamentals and prepare dancers for an end-of-session recital. – Two sessions (Fall and Spring) in 2026-27 – $75 per session |
| Youth Irish Dance | Mondays, 6 – 6:55 p.m. | Artworks at the Tates Creek Recreation Center | This class is for youth students with previous Irish dance experience. Permission of instructor required to enroll. Class will focus on group dancing with some individual choreography. – Annual registration for 2026-27 – $150 per year |
| Adult Irish Dance | Mondays, 7-7:55 p.m. | Artworks at the Tates Creek Recreation Center | This class is for dancers ages 16+ and adults of all levels. Class will focus on group ceili dances and both group and individual dances for community performances. – Annual registration for 2026-27 – $150 per year |

* Instruction by the Bluegrass Ceili Academy, which is certified under An Coimisuin le Rinci Gaelacha (CLRG), is open to dancers not currently affiliated with another CLRG school. Dancers who previously danced with a CLRG-affiliated school must follow the transfer rules if they wish to take classes with Bluegrass Ceili Academy.
