Another new chapter for our Lexington Irish dance school

Bluegrass Ceili Academy, Competitions
Sometimes the things staring you right in the face don't stand out as a milestone until someone else points it out. That's the case for our Lexington Irish dance school and the weekend coming up. This Father's Day weekend in Kentucky is also a back-to-back Irish dance competition weekend -- the Louisville Feis is Saturday and Lexington's Bluegrass Feis is Sunday. For those new to Irish dancing, a "feis" (pronounced "fesh") is a local dance competition. At our rehearsal Monday night, I was giving our dancers a pep talk -- you see, it's the first time each of them will be competing in Irish dance. One of the dancers pointed out that not only would it be a first for them, but it’s also the first for our community-based Lexington…

Happy Thanksgiving from our Lexington Irish dance school

Bluegrass Ceili Academy, Community
With Thanksgiving 2017 upon us, we at Bluegrass Ceili Academy wanted to thank our Lexington Irish dance school family for all that you bring to our community. We've had a busy year so far and there's still a lot coming up this fall and early in 2018, so we're excited to share some of those events with you. But first... all of the things for which we are thankful: Our students:  From our beginners, to our returning students, to our adults, we are grateful for each and every pair of feet dancing across our studio floor. Our parents:  In case your dancers haven't said so, we say "THANK YOU!" for choosing to make our Irish dance classes part of your child's cultural growth. Our partners: Our Lexington Irish dance school is…

Our Lexington Irish dance school gives back to the community

Community, Local Events
Perspective. Experience. Community. Mission.  Not only is that what matters, but it's why our Lexington Irish dance school is stepping up to support cultural arts scholarships for students in Central Kentucky. On Saturday, July 22, we're partnering with the 2017 Kentucky Rose of Tralee, Martha Mortell, to host a fundraiser for Artworks at the Carver School.  All funds raised will be used to provide need- and merit-based scholarships for children and adults who take cultural arts classes through Lexington Parks and Recreation's programs at Artworks. Why are we doing this? Because, for us, it's about community. Our Lexington Irish dance school was welcomed into the Artworks program last year, along with other cultural arts classes such as karate instruction with Bushin Kan Dojo of Lexington, Kentucky.  We've found our home…

With our Spring Recital in the books, we have wrapped up the first year since we've opened our doors as a Lexington Irish dance school and joined a thriving local community. April 2016 [caption id="attachment_451" align="alignleft" width="300"] A small but enthusiastic group at our very first free class![/caption] On April 13, we taught our first class in Lexington...in a bar. That's right! Thanks to our friends at McCarthy's Irish bar downtown, we've offered a number of free Irish dance classes to the community at the Spiders Well.  You can read more about that here or here. On April 24, dancers from four schools joined together for an afternoon…
