Bluegrass Ceili Academy is the winner of the 2024 CommunityVotes Lexington-Fayette dance lessons category. The selection recognizes the academy’s contributions to the local arts scene and its dedication to sharing the joy of Irish dance.
CommunityVotes is a platform dedicated to recognizing outstanding businesses and services within local communities, providing a space where community members can acknowledge the positive impact of local businesses. “This year’s campaign saw an impressive 1,853 businesses and individuals nominated, with thousands of votes cast by community members. Only the top nominees in each category proceeded to the voting round,” the announcement from CommunityVotes said.
The CommunityVotes award is particularly significant as it is driven by community participation. The award reflects the support and enthusiasm demonstrated by those who nominated and voted.
“As Lexington’s community-based Irish dance school, this award is a testament to the vibrant Irish dance community we’ve cultivated here in Central Kentucky,” said academy director Megan Moloney. “It’s so rewarding to see what we’ve created to be recognized by others in our community.”

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Bluegrass Ceili Academy is marking a decade of fostering a vibrant community through Irish dancing in Lexington. Throughout that time, the program has been recognized in the local and Irish dance communities for its work. In 2021, the academy was voted Lexington Herald-Leader’s Reader’s Choice Best Dance Studio. That same year, founder and director Megan Moloney received international acclaim with the Irish Dance Magazine Excellence in Teaching Global Award. Further accolades in 2024 included being named a Best of Lex Awards dance studio finalist and recognition from The Scout Guide Lexington as one of their “Ones to Watch.”
Bluegrass Ceili Academy is certified under An Coimisuin le Rinci Gaelacha, the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America, the Irish Dancers Teachers Association of Mid-America and is a member of the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America Southern Region. Classes in Lexington are taught in partnership with Lexington Parks and Recreation.
