We're trying something new this month with our friends at Failte Irish Shop -- joining together to offer a free Irish dance class in Lexington for you and your family! You don’t need dancing shoes, you just need yourself! Our free class is all about getting students up and dancing. We’ll teach you the basics, but want you to enjoy the music and a dance or two. Bluegrass Ceili Academy brings “Something Irish” to the stage

When I left Lexington in 1995 to head to Washington, D.C., I left behind friends and my work in the local theatre community here. In D.C., I stopped acting and started dancing. On St. Patrick's Day this year, I get to go back to my theatre roots and I couldn't be more excited. Bluegrass Ceili Academy will be joining Woodford Theatre this March 17 and we are inviting our community to celebrate the day with "Something Irish." Explore Irish dance, music and language and meet the folks behind Translations, by Irish playwright Brian Friel, which opens March 24. Riverdance in Lexington: Finding inspiration where you can

So the last two days have been extra special with the chance to watch a rehearsal and a private performance at One: The Alltech Ideas Conference. On Tuesday, local Irish dancers, including students from Artworks at the Carver School, where Bluegrass Ceili Academy will be teaching beginning this fall, were invited to attend a dress rehearsal by the cast. While many of the Artworks dancers have studied ballet, jazz or tap, this was their first experience with Irish dance. This year, 2016, is the 100th anniversary of Ireland's Easter Rising. In February this year, the Irish dancing commission in Dublin, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, asked its member schools to come together and host local dance events in their communities. "We envisage a grand non-competitive, no costume céilí taking place worldwide, preferably on April 24th involving as many people as possible: dancers, families and friends," CLRG asked. Bluegrass Ceili Academy, Kentucky McTeggart Irish Dancers and the Lexington Irish Dancers are joining together to commemorate the #1916Rising, a celebration of 100 years of Irish independence. This year, Ireland commemorates the centenary of the Easter Rising of 1916 when the new Ireland was born. This free community event is Sunday afternoon, April 24, from 3 - 5 p.m. at ArtsPlace in Lexington.
